NASF Leadership ConferenceFebruary 25 – March 1, 2018 MFASC board members and association members attended the NASF Leadership Conference on February 25 – March 1, 2018, at the Grand Hyatt Resort in Kauai. The NASF Leadership Conference provides a good opportunity for California members to network with other association colleagues throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, at a beautiful resort. MFASC Sponsor of the 2018 CSULB Rocketry Program MFASC is proud to be a Platinum Tier sponsor of the 2018 California State University, Long Beach Rocketry Program. Twenty ambitious students who share multiple majors from Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering to Computer Science are currently practicing for competition that will take place at the NASA Marshall Space Center in Huntsville, Alabama on the week of April 4th 2018. CUPA Training Conference February 5-8, 2018 MFASC and MFANC exhibited this year at the 20th Annual CUPA Conference Training Forum at the Hyatt Regency, San Francisco, on February 5th – 8th. MFANC President Bobbi Burns, MFANC Vice President Terry McGuinness and MFASC Executive Director Bryan Leiker worked the booth. This conference provides training in subjects related to enhancing the Unified Program implementation and improving consistency and coordination between 84 CUPAs and 32 participating agencies throughout California. NASF Board Meeting at the Hyatt Regency LAX January 10-11, 2018 MFASC hosted NASF and MFANC at their January Board of Directors meeting at the Hyatt Regency LAX. Over forty people attended representing many companies throughout the United States. MFASC President, Wesley Turnbow ran and informative and highly productive opening meeting with topics including California regulation concerns and updates from the National office. Guests were treated to a nice dinner and networking opportunity with colleagues.
9th Working Group Meeting for AQMD Rule 1469 January 4, 2018 MFASC board members, members of the Association and staff attended the 9th AQMD Rule 1469 working group meeting at AQMD headquarters on January 4, 2018. Key points to note is that the public hearing date has been moved from February to April to allow additional time to evaluate concerns recently received from the public regarding toxicity of chemical fume suppressants. MFASC Awards Scholarships to Bright Design Challenge Winners December 7, 2017 The Metal Finishing Association of Southern California recently awarded $20,000 in scholarships to the winners of the Bright Design Challenge. This program is sponsored by the California Associations for Metal Finishing and NASF, the National Association for Surface Finishing. The program at the Art Center of Design in Pasadena encourages students to incorporate surface finishing into new and innovative products.
